Profile:

An expert in professional real estate management and maintenance, and specifically “reasonable standards of care”  for properly maintaining a commercial or multifamily property. My expertise also includes financial reporting and fiduciary duties to clients, inspection and maintenance policies and procedures, risk management and legal compliance/record keeping.

I have been actively and directly involved in the management of real estate since 1984, first as a leasing and investment broker, and property manager and later as a property management supervisor, management company co-owner and top executive for national management companies. I still directly manage several commercial properties.

Since 2011, I have been an instructor of real estate management professionals through the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM®) and the Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMI®). As a certified instructor for both of these prestigious organizations, I teach accreditation courses in property maintenance, risk management, ethics and finance all over the U.S.

IREM and BOMI set the standards of care and best practices for property managers. As Instructor for the accreditation courses for these industry groups (and part of the revision team for IREM courses), I have helped hundreds of real estate professionals advance their understanding and application of these topics.

In 2016, I was President of IREM Chapter 22 in Sacramento, California and still serve actively on the board of the chapter.

As an expert witness since 2015, I have been engaged by Defense and Plaintiffs on cases involving reasonable standards of care, fiduciary duties and related topics for commercial properties, multifamily communities and residential condominium homeowners associations.

As an Assistant Professor at California State Univ. Sacramento, I teach Real Estate Principles (FIN 19) at the Finance Dept. of the School of Business Administration.
